Mitali Perkins is one of my favorite authors for middle school readers. I have read Rickshaw Girl (that one is for upper elementary actually-but is still a great book for any age), Bamboo People, and Extreme American Makeover. I am lucky enough to get the chance to listen to her speak at a private function in October and am hoping to get a picture taken with her to be able to hang in our beautiful library.
Her official website is http://www.mitaliperkins.com/. Mitali was born in Kolkata, India and has lived in Ghana, Cameroon, England, New York, Mexico, California, Bangladesh, and Thailand. She currently lives in Massachusetts with her husband, two sons, and two Labrador Retrievers.
